Coronation Parade has been closed by Shepway District Council for vital coast defence work, and is currently off-limits to the public. Please do not attempt to enter the works area while it is fenced off, as you will be putting your safety at risk.
The Parade was constructed in the 1930s, and helps to protect the cliffs behind it from erosion. Recently, cracks have become visible in the Parade, the concrete has been eroded, and the reinforcing steel has become exposed and badly corroded. The cliffs have also suffered from land slips in the last six months.
The works are expected to take around eight months to complete, and a section of beach along Coronation Parade will also be fenced off while these are carried out.
